Edmond Leon Chu passed away at the age of 47 on August 13, 2013. Ed was born and raised in Oakland, California. He was brought into this world on April 2, 1966 through his father, Mr. Kenneth Chu and his mother, Ms. Olisa Cheung. Ed is survived by both his parents, his younger sister Debbie, his brother-in-law Will, his nephews Conner and Rylan, along with numbers aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In terms of academic achievements, Ed graduated from Oakland High School in 1984 and continued on to Cal State Hayward where he received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management in 1992.

Ed's employment history started well before he graduated from High School. Starting in April of 1983, Ed worked as the Dining Room Manager for the Lake Park Retirement Residence. From 1983-1994, one of his primary job functions was to ensure the quality of his favorite love of life - FOOD! He made sure that the 200+ residents of the home were happy and well-fed.

Between 1994-2002, Ed was employed by FEMA as well as Hewlett Packard. But it wasn't until June of 2002 when Ed first began working for the University of California, Berkeley that he finally worked for a place that he could call home. He was so proud to work for the University that he wore Cal apparel as often as he could.

Ed worked at UC Berkeley for more than 11 years. He was originally hired as part of the Human Resources Team. Through his hard work and commitment to excellence, he received a promotion in June of 2004. Then in December 2006, Ed was appointed to a completely different position as the Building Manager for Earl Warren Hall. He was responsible for coordinating all building facilities needs with the central campus Physical Plant. This role was a perfect fit for Ed and he truly excelled in this position because of his resourcefulness, his flexibility, and his outgoing personality.

Ed had numerous hobbies, such as cars, collecting Star Trek memorabilia, and traveling. His interests also spanned a wide range of topics, from sports to cooking to hard rock music. He was passionate about life, thus, Ed was a true connoisseur of food, a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan, and a science fiction enthusiast.

Above all else, Ed was a gentle soul and he strived to be helpful to others. He touched so many lives through his family, friends, and colleagues. Without a doubt, the world was a better place with Ed Chu in it!
