PETERS, James Phillip

Oct. 30, 1945 - June 6, 2011

James fought valiantly for over 15 years against Alzheimer's Disease, but he is now at rest. He was a great sports enthusiast and knew everything there was to know about all of the National football teams, especially his beloved San Francisco 49ers. He even extended his knowledge to the NFL officials pointing out the ones that might call a bad game for the 49ers. He played college ball [sic] as a center for Oakland High School and his brother Stanford Peters was a longtime winning coach and Athletic Director for Laney College in Oakland. James worked as a Parts Technician for 3 large Porsche automobile dealerships in Oakland (Johnson Pacific), and in Sacramento for Wes Lasher and Snider Motors. He was excellent at his job and was honored with plaques and awards for his work. During the last 6 years of his working career, James was employed by the San Juan School District. His mother, Florence Peters, and his aunt, Matilda (Tillie) Mariani, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lynn Browning-Peters; his brother-in-law, Leland E. Browning; his brother, Stanford C. Peters; his sister-in-law, Ruth Peters; his niece, Erika Peters; his cousins, Gary E. Mariani, Carole and Bob Compton; and his nephews, Stanford and Michael Peters. James was a true patriot and loved the USA very much - one of his favorite places in this country was Lake Tahoe. At his request, his ashes will be spread over the lake.
