Susan Eleanor Hedlund was born to Alf Hedlund and Gertrude Snow on June 10, 1943. Susan passed away peacefully at her home in El Portal, California on June 18, 2014 at the age of 71, of natural causes.

Susan was born in Oakland, California and the San Francisco Bay Area was always one of her favorite places. She worked for the federal government for 44 years, much of that time was in Yosemite National Park for the National Park Service Trails Department.

Susan enjoyed the outdoors and spent many summers hiking in the backcountry, or enjoying the snow during the winter months and often went snowshoeing. She loved animals, nature, traveling, sailing, studying family history and she was very spiritual. She spoke often of her family visits to Sweden and was proud of her heritage.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ann Marie (Hedlund) Wheeler. She leaves behind her niece, Johanna Wheeler of Jamestown, TN, step-sisters Carol Utt of Modesto, CA, Susan Davis and Linda Hinton both from the San Francisco Bay Area. Susan will be remembered and missed by many family and friends.

Services will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mariposa SPCA or a favorite charity.
