John R. Carlson passed away at home in Pleasant Hill at age 73. John was born in Oakland, CA where he grew up and graduated from Oakland High School. He dedicated his service to carpentry for 50 years. He spent most of his working years with Hofmann Company, N.E. Carlson Construction, and James E. Roberts-Obayashi.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 152, scout leader, softball coach, skilled craftsman, gun collector, beloved father, brother and a friend to many. He enjoyed golf, watching the SF Giants, and a day at the auto races.

John is survived by his adult children Brendan Carlson, Kristen Boyd, Jason Carlson, Bryan Carlson, step-daughter Sarah Wayne, and grand children Cassidy Boyd and Rebecca Boyd. He is also survived by siblings Nels Carlson, Mary Lakin, and Janet Hinrichs. His son, Michael Carlson, passed away at age 17 in 1982.

Friends and family are invited to a funeral service on Friday, March 4, at 1pm at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Road in Lafayette. Reception to follow at Pleasant Hill Recreation Center, 320 Civic Dr, Pleasant Hill.
