Judy Avey lost her long struggle with cancer July 29, 2012, at home in Hidden Valley Lake surrounded by her children and friends. She was born in Oakland on March 22, 1940. The only child of Theodore Iverson and Margaret Burke Iverson. She graduated from Oakland High School and U.C. Berkeley with a B.A. in political science and maintained a lifelong interest and knowledge of politics and government. She and Rich Avey were married in 1962 and moved to Australia in 1964 and returned a year later to Calif. They settled in the Calistoga area in 1982. Rich died in 2001.
Judy became administrative assistant to the pastor of Community Presbyterian Church in 2003 after retiring from the cable co. Judy is survived by her children, Pamela and Dan; devoted cousin Claudia Blancher; precious granddaughter Maddie Avey; grandson Charlie Flynn; son-in-law Kiev Schul, niece Iseth Cowan Rae, nephew Jason and friend Marilyn Cowan. A memorial service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church (1407 Third St., Calistoga) on August 14, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Community Presbyterian Church.
