Roger Martin passed away in Oakland on Saturday, Dec.17, 2016 of lung cancer. He was 79. His light will shine brightly in all who will carry his memory on.

Roger was born in Oakland and graduated from Oakland High in 1955. He graduated from San Francisco State College in 1960 with a degree in Music and Education. Roger taught music and 5th grade in Pinole. He then went to Crockett to teach Middle School Science. He was also a principal in Crockett and Rodeo. Upon retirement he taught music and was director of JSHS in Berkeley. He loved working with young people.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Claudia; loving sons Randy (Karyn) of Oakley; Lance of Richmond and loving grandchildren Daniel, Taylor and Benjamin. Family and friends were his joy and music was his passion.

Over the years Roger played trombone in several bay area bands. Roger and Claudia enjoyed traveling together, and with good friends. He was a big fan of the Oakland A's and Oakland Raiders. Rogers faith was a pillar of his character. He was blessed with a full and active life.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 10am in the Chapel at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette. A reception will follow in the adjoining hall.
