Ivan Leroy Chow

Ivan Chow Ivan L. Chow
Died in his Walnut Creek home on February 28, 2013.

Ivan was born in 1938 to Ellen Ming and Raymond Chow, part of the founding families of Bakersfield. He moved to the Bay Area as a teen and graduated from Oakland High School and then San Francisco State. In 1963, he married his wife, Elaine.

He began his career at Golden West Savings & Loan, where he earned the respect and trust of all and made lifelong friends. He finished his career at Bank of America's Community Development Bank, where his work sought to transform and revitalize communities.

An avid sportsman, Ivan hunted in the Dakotas and Argentina. He fished Baja and the Klamath. Above all, he was a duck hunter who was happiest at his duck club on the Suisun marsh, where he was surrounded by nature and beloved friends.

Ivan is survived by his sister, Florence Lim, his son, Garrett Chow, and his daughter and son-in-law Lindsey and Jordan Drake.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 10 at the Landmarks Art & Garden Center, Tiburon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to California Waterfowl Association or KQED.
