Donald (Don) McCullough, 87, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Tracy Skilled Nursing Home after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's. He was a well-loved husband of 53 years, father, and grandfather.

Don was born on September 15, 1929 in Oakland, CA. He grew up in Oakland with his 2 brothers and graduated from Oakland High School. After high school, he went to work for Pacific Bell where his father worked. In 1954 he was drafted into the Army (during the Korean War). Don was stationed in Germany for the duration of his service and met many wonderful people with whom he kept in contact throughout his life. Upon his discharge he returned home to Oakland and his work as a lineman for Pacific Bell where he remained for 45 years making many friends out of his clients, until eventually retiring in 1990. In 2011, he and his wife Ingrid moved to Tracy in order to be closer to family.

Don loved living in the Bay Area, and relished taking every opportunity he could to hike around San Francisco, enjoying the local sights and people. He would start conversations everywhere he went and enjoyed entertaining people with his stories.

Don was honored for work he had done by President Carter during a presidential visit to the Bay Area and also Mayor Jerry Brown.

In 1960 Don met his wife Ingrid in Germany while attending a friend's wedding. They corresponded with each other diligently for 3 years until he invited her to the United States for a visit. They ended up marrying in 1963 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage.

Don is survived by his wife, Ingrid, his daughter Susan Brown and her husband Matthew Brown both of Tracy, as well as his 2 granddaughters Megan Brown and Sierra Brown both of Tracy.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Carra McCullough and his 2 brothers Lloyd McCullough [OHS 1944] and Richard McCullough [OHS 1947].

A celebration of life will be held at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 South Central Ave, Tracy, CA at 11:00a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017. Graveside will follow at Tracy Mausoleum at 8842 West Schulte Road, Tracy, CA. with a reception following.
