JOHN J. VLASTELIN Passed away on October 9, 2005 at Queen of the Valley Hospital. John was born in Astoria, New York on December 20, 1928 to John F. Vlastelin and Emilia (Rumac) Vlastelin who were both from Croatia. John came to California as a teenager and graduated from Oakland High School. After he graduated he went to work for Pacific Bell. John was employed by the phone company for 40 years retiring as a foreman in underground construction. After retiring John started La Vigna, a decorative grapevine wreath business which provided him with many years of enjoyment. John was a member of St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, Alemany Council # 982 of the knights of Columbus, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Friends of Carmelites. John was preceded in death by his wife Helen Vlastelin in July of this year. He is currenly survived by his two sons, John J. Vlastelin and his wife Maria of Dover, New Hampshire and Michael J. Vlastelin of Napa, two daughters, Ellen Vlastelin of Sacramento, Mary Travis and her husband Tony also of Sacramento, one sister, Emily Reves [OHS 1948] of Sacramento, and numerous nieces and nephews. John is survived by his grandchildren, John Michael, Sarah and Emily. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, 3700 Lassen St. in Napa. The Rosary will be held on Wednesday evening, 7:00 p.m. also at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Tulocay Cemetery in Napa. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St. in Napa.
