Frederick "Fred" Earle Hammer
November 29, 1928 ~ December 14, 2018

Fred Hammer was born in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day, 1928, and passed away on December 14, 2018 at the age of 90.
He was preceded by his parents, Frederick and Beatrice Hammer, his sister, Audrey (Brian) Thompson and his cousin, George Hammer.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his partner, Joan Weber; his daughters: Barbara Hammer (Herb) and Colleen Hammer (Nick Marquart); his sons: Ken Hammer and Paul (Aileen) Hammer; his step-daughter, Leila (Jason) McCarty and his grandchildren: Shawn, Makaela and Brianna Hammer and Henning McCarty.
After graduating from Oakland High School Fred served in the army during the Korean War.
He was a proud Journeyman Electrician and 70 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 595 where he was much respected and loved as Foreman and General Foreman as well as serving on the Executive Board and as a Negotiator. Some of the jobs he headed up for Red Top Electric were at NASA's 12 foot Wind Tunnel, Ohlone and Chabot Colleges, Cal State Hayward, Lawrence Berkeley and Livermore Labs, the Oakland Coliseum Arena, Bayer Labs and the first Apple Production Plant in Fremont.
He enjoyed playing (in younger days) and watching sports and ran the Oakland Marathon on his 50th birthday.
He loved working in his woodshop making gifts for people, traveling, tending his garden, walking his dog and getting together with family and friends.
He was notorious around Niles for playing tricks for which someone else would get blamed.
Fred will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor and his infectious laugh and will remain forever in our hearts.
Fred's Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 24th, from 1 to 3 pm at the Niles Canyon Mobile Estates clubhouse, 711 Old Canyon Road, Fremont, CA 94536.
