Robert Edward Scrimiger passed away peacefully on Sunday at Sutter Delta Memorial Hospital, holding the hand of his wife of 67 years, Patricia. He served both his community and country, and inspired his family with his many passions over the years.

Robert (Bob) was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but moved to Oakland as a teenager, graduating from Oakland High School in 1944. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, serving in Tinian and the Philippines before earning his Associate of Arts degree in fire science. He went on to a distinguished 25-year career as a firefighter for the Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire District.

Bob pursued and succeeded at many interests throughout his life. He was the 1970 and 1971 Mt. Diablo Firefighters Golf Club champion, played with the legendary Billy Martin on a semi-professional baseball team sponsored by the Alameda Shipyards, and joined an Oakland-based barnstorming basketball team that even played the inmates of San Quentin Prison. He could also be described as a musical historian, and thoroughly enjoyed many years of Latin-style dancing with Patricia.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Pat; children Chris Scrimiger of Cambria, Ross Scrimiger of Brentwood, and Robin Scrimiger of Oakley, grandchildren Nate and Jennifer Smith of Antioch, Trevor and Jessica Smith of Oakley, Colby and John Scott of Oakley, Adam Scrimiger of Yreka, and Matt Scrimiger of Cambria, and great-grandchildren Reilly, Carson, Skylar, Ainsley, Avery, Aurora, and Draco. He is also pre-deceased by his grandson Aaron Scrimiger.
