Leon Howard Davis 1925 - 2012 Resident of Alameda Leon Davis (nee Schmulowitz) died on Dec. 3, 2012, from heart failure while hospitalized. He was the youngest son of Henry and Sarah Schmulowitz. He is survived by his live in companion of thirty years Linda Colbert, and his loving sister Lila Schmulowitz and his brother George Alton (nee Schmulowitz). Leon was born in North Oakland and attended Oakland High School where he was a star athlete, and earned his Block O playing on the Varsity football team. At the age of 19, in September of 1944, he was drafted, and sent to Fort Ord, Calif. for basic training. After his stint at Fort Ord, he was assigned to the 91st. Infantry Division, and sent overseas to the European Theatre. He participated in the Battle Of The Bulge on the Luxemburg sector. He was seriously wounded by mortar fire in early January of 1945. After his wounds were attended at a Mash station, he was sent to a hospital in Paris to recover. He was returned to the States where he received his discharge. He met an English war widow in Oakland by the name of Jane Snodgrass, and they were married. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, under the GI Bill of Rights, and he granduated in 1950. He went to work at the Oakland Toy Co. as a salesman and junior buyer. His wife Jane died after a few years of marriage. He met Linda Gobert, and they lived as man and wife for thirty years until his recent demise.
