HAROLD WAYNE NIELSEN, Sr.
Harold passed away peacefully Monday morning, January 12, 2015 after spending Sunday with his beloved wife, Elaine.

Harold was born in Oakland in 1924 to Amy Esther Engebretsen and Harold Wiig Nielsen. Attended Oakland High School, followed by UC Berkeley. He completed his education graduating from UCSF College of Dentistry in 1946 receiving the degree Doctor of Dental Surgery. Following graduation, Harold joined the U S Navy as an officer and was stationed in Kodiak Alaska. In 1948 Harold opened his dental practice on Park Blvd in Oakland. He retired in 1990.

Harold NielsenHarold Married the Love of his life, Elaine Springer in 1978. He was a devoted husband and family man, so very proud and Involved in the lives of his four children, Wayne, Jenny, Lee and Hugh and his eleven Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren. Harold is survived by his friend and brother, Fred Nielsen. He is predeceased by his beloved sister, Marilyn Nielsen Law.

Harold felt a strong calling to give back to community. He was involved in many community organizations. He was a 65 year member of Kiwanis Club of Oakland including past President and Lt. Governor. He held leadership roles in Alameda County and California Dental Associations and was past President, UC San Francisco Dental Alumni. He was Past President of the American College of Dentists, Northern California. Harold most enjoyed the relationships and people that he met and worked with in his community involvement. Many became lifelong friends.

Harold loved people and valued friendships. His personality was warm and engaging. He had a gift to encourage and help people feel good about themselves. He and Elaine are members of the Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Orinda. He enjoyed being inspired by the Word of God every Sunday.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January, 24th at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2433 Moraga Way, Orinda at 2 PM.
