Lilian "Dolly" Brye of Lititz died Saturday at Luther Acres after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Her passing was as peaceful as her long and full life was beautiful. She was born in Oakland, California, the daughter of Peter and Frieda (Daiss) Oksen. She attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and then worked for the San Francisco Chronicle. In 1948 she married Joseph Brye and then settled in Corvallis, Oregon.
She was a homemaker and mother of four children and was a long-time active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Corvallis singing in the choir, serving on committees, and teaching Sunday School. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and an active volunteer in Corvallis, visiting patients in hospitals and in nursing homes on a regular basis. An active lifetime member of PEO (an international philanthropic women's organization) in the Corvallis and Lancaster chapters, and a member of Saint Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lititz, Dolly found her calling throughout her life in helping others. Her loving and kind manner will be missed by all that knew her.
Her husband and daughter in law Debra (Aasum) Brye preceded her in death in 2004. She is survived by son Peter and wife Jane (Kauffman) of Lancaster, son John and wife Christine (Aasum) of New Cumberland, daughter Julie and partner Elvira Ortiz of Jersey City, son Timothy and wife Kristin (Quigley) of Port Angeles, WA, five grandchildren (Kristina, Josef, Daniel, Anne, and Parker), five great grandchildren, nieces Susan Buscombe and Winifred Quintilian, and nephew Donald Berg.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Lilian's Life Celebration Funeral Service at the Chapel of the Good Samaritan at Luther Acres, 250 St. Luke Drive, Lititz on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010, at 2 P.M. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her memory to P.E.O.
