FRANCES BERNICE O'BRIEN GABEHART 1922 - 2013 Praise the Lord! A saint has gone to be with the Lord!

Bernice O'Brien was born November 29, 1922 in Oakland, California to Thomas Cyril O'Brien and Helen Loretta Rowe, good Irish stock. She was the second of six children, graduating from Oakland High School in 1940. Bernice attended cosmetology school and was licensed to cut and style hair. She met the love of her life, Joe Gabehart, on the sidewalk outside the beauty shop where she worked. They met, fell in love and married. After Joe returned from military service overseas they moved to Texas. Over the years, Bernice's family grew to 8 children, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, Grant. Bernice was a loving mother and dedicated homemaker, talented in the traditional skills of providing for her family. She tended her garden, canned fruit, put up vegetables, made preserves and was an exceptional baker of cakes, pies, cookies and fruit cakes being an inspiration to many of her children and grandchildren. Bernice was greatly known for her creative talents such as sewing, crocheting and knitting, making clothes for herself, her children and grandchildren. Bernice loved to use the color Kelly Green in her creations being proud of her Irish heritage. She was active in the Regina Guild making baby clothes for those in need.

Bernice was a lifelong Catholic and model Christian who taught her children to be the same, and she was an example for all. She was a founding member of Holy Rosary Parish and most recently a member of St. Luke's Parish. She received last rites and Holy Eucharist before she passed and testified to her commitment to her Lord and Savior to all present on that day. She peacefully and painlessly passed from this life on January 24 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joe W. Gabehart, and her sister, Helen O'Brien. She is survived by her children: Gary J. (Peggy) Gabehart, Loretta (Norm) Hastings, Patricia (Doug) Eichman, Daniel Gabehart, Richard (Julie) Gabehart, John (Erin) Gabehart, Joseph W. (Twila) Gabehart, and Christopher Gabehart. She is also survived by siblings: Margie Tavare, Jane (Jack) Kenny, Theresa (Leonard) Vicknair and Tom (Dolores) O'Brien, all of California and special friend Ceci Wolfe and family.

Services under the supervision of Alamo Funeral Chapels. Visitation on Monday, January 28 starting at 4pm with recitation of the Rosary at 7pm at Alamo Funeral Chapels, 624 N. Alamo St., San Antonio, Texas. Burial service will be on Tuesday, January 29 at 2pm at the Mausoleum Chapel at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at 17501 Nacogdoches Rd.
