Betty Young Resident of Pleasant Hill
Betty Young passed away in peace at home in Pleasant Hill on September 2, 2009. Betty was born in San Francisco in 1923 to Bessie and Franklin Luckensmeyer of Oakland. She had a wonderful childhood that included trips to Oregon, Vancouver, Yosemite, and summers at a relative's farm in Wheatland. Betty attended Longfellow School in Alameda and went on to Oakland High, graduating in 1939 [sic] at the age of 16. Betty met her husband to be, Robert, at an ice skating party. They were married in 1945, settled in Walnut Creek in 1948 and raised three children: Stephen, David, and Wendy. She was very socially active in Walnut Creek Elks during the 60's, was an avid bowler, and was part of an active contract bridge group.
She enjoyed ship cruises and traveled the world with friends and family. She moved to Alamo in 1983 to a home that became an oasis for the all the grandchildren. Many fun-filled summer days and joyous Christmas Eves were spent there, as spoiling the grandchildren became her avocation. Betty is survived by her adoring husband, three children, and seven grandchildren. Private family services and burial were held on September 11. In memory of Betty, the family requests donations to Sutter VNA and Hospice of Concord; or to a local Hospice group.
