Jean Boutos Biagi

Jean Boutos Biagi, nee Jean Boutos, born in San Francisco on September 21, 1922, was a lifelong Northern California resident, most of that time being spent in the East Bay area, in Oakland, where she grew up and attended Oakland High School, and Contra Costa County, where she lived for many years. During World War II, Jean worked in a civilian position as the executive administrative assistant to the commander of the 4th Fighter Group for the Pacific. She also volunteered as a hostess at the Stage Door Canteen in San Francisco. After the war, she married Louis Biagi, and settled in Oakland, where they had three sons: Michael, now of New York city, Loren, of Concord, Ca, and Randall, of Vacaville, Ca. In addition to being a homemaker, Jean worked in market research for various firms, including the Gallup organization.

Jean was an avid bridge player, and for many years played in bridge groups in Contra Costa County. She also had a special fondness for going to the casinos in Lake Tahoe, often with her mother. Although Jean spent her later years in a wheelchair due to a stroke, this did not slow her down too much. As late as November, 2015, at 93, she could be seen peering over the rim of a blackjack table at Red Hawk casino, from her chair, and playing some very canny blackjack. An inspiration throughout her life to those who knew her, Jean, in spite of her infirmities, remained tremendously engaged in life, wherever she found herself, making new friends, and laughing with, and ministering to, them. She cared very deeply for all of her friends and family. Being Greek-American, Jean also spoke fluent Greek, and loved all things Greek, especially dancing, and food ("More lemon, please!") and the Greek Orthodox churches in both Oakland and Sacramento. A woman of abiding faith, she, at the end of her life, looked forward to being with her Savior, and the many loved ones who went before her.

Jean is predeceased by her husband Lou Biagi, her brother Chris Boutos, brother-in-law John Roussos, both of Las Vegas. She is survived by her sister Angela Roussos, of San Diego, her brother-in-law Richard C. Biagi, of Palm Desert, her three sons, and daughter-in-law Teresa Biagi, her two grandchildren Gianna and Christopher Biagi, and several beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Memorial celebration arrangements are pending.
