George Paul Wood, 99, passed away from cancer on July 15th, 2014, in his San Leandro home of 69 years.

He was born May 24, 1915, in Vancouver B.C., and then moved to Scotland where he attended Knoxland Academy. George and his family moved to California in 1929 where he graduated from Oakland High School in 1933. He then studied engineering at the University of California in Berkeley. During WWII he was employed by General Engineering and Dry Dock Co. in Alameda building ships. That's where he met the love of his life, Sue, his wife of 67 years. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the city of Oakland until his retirement in 1976. His favorite hobbies were golf, fishing, and playing the bagpipes. George was the source of the wonderful bagpipe music heard in San Leandro on New Years Eve as he marched back and forth in front of his home piping in the New Year.

He is survived by his sister Lillian Barrett; his daughter, Virginia; and his son, Jim; two grandchildren, Ian Crawford, and Derek Wood; four great grandchildren, Alia, Luke, Ryan, and Layla; and two step great grandchildren, Ethan and Autumn.

An inurnment ceremony will be held at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward on Saturday August 2 at 11am. Donations may be sent to Hayward Hospice 30116 Eigenbrodt Way Union City, CA 94587
