Barbara Taggart Resident of Piedmont, CA

On March 2, 2017, Barbara Taggart died at home in Piedmont in the company of her family and loving caregiver.

Barbara was born 101 years ago in Webster Groves, MO, the youngest of 3 sisters and a brother. She outlived them all.

Her family moved to South Bend, IN, when Barbara was an infant, and it was there she spent her childhood and early teen years. She would delight in telling tales of her girlhood there and said those years were the happiest of her life. Well into her 90's she would sing the fight songs of Messle School, South Bend Central Senior High School and the University Of Notre Dame.

In 1932, the Great Depression changed everything and the family moved to Oakland, CA, where Barbara graduated from Oakland High School.

Barbara married Wallace Taggart at 19 and set up housekeeping in Oakland.

She and her two sisters loved to sing and formed a professional trio. They performed at a number of local venues and on the radio for several years.

With the birth of baby Barby, the family moved to Piedmont in 1949. She joined the Piedmont Community Church that same year. She sang in the church choir for over 30 years and was an active participant in many church activities. She loved the church and most of all, its choir.

She was a member of Oakland's Bellevue Club and played bridge there frequently. She was active in Piedmont schools parent's clubs and community affairs for many years.

She leaves her son Robert Taggart and daughter Barbara Schultz, grandchildren Patricia Taggart Yurch, Jennifer Taggart Berg, Jack (JT) Schultz, Jamie Reifenberg and 8 1/2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace and son James.

A memorial celebrating her life will be held at The Piedmont Community Church on April 23 at 2:PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Piedmont Community Church Music Fund in her memory.
